Hi, I’m Leslie, Creator Of Sugar & Saw!

I am a former business executive, turned stay-at-home mom turned DIY Blogger.  I love to create, refresh, rejuvenate, resurface and redesign all things house related.  I love to obsess about the details of projects until I get it right and I am going to share those details with you!

I Got It From My Mama!

Looking back at my childhood, what my mother accomplished was nothing short of astounding.  The woman could do ANYTHING.

Things I can remember her doing ranged from baking us 3D animal birthday cakes, sewing anything from costumes to custom boat covers, recovering a couch, re-caning the seat of an antique chair, refinishing all manner of furniture, making by hand all of our Christmas arrangements and wreaths with fresh pine boughs, fixing toilets, tiling our shower, designing and planting gorgeous gardens, canning, and even flooding a low spot in our backyard one winter so it would freeze into our very own ice skating rink.

But wait, she did all of this BEFORE THE INTERNET.  Gasp!  Seriously, I don’t know where she got her ideas or how she learned to do things.

While my mom didn’t ask for help or try to force-teach me her skills, it was always present, happening in the background.  As I got older and started taking on projects of my own it struck me. No matter what I decided to do I never had any doubt I would be able to do it. I realized the gift my mom gave me was the belief that I can figure out and do anything I want to.

That is why I end each of my posts with, “SHE BELIEVED SHE COULD, SO SHE DID”.

Why I Created Sugar & Saw

One of the reasons I decided to start blogging is because of the reactions I get to many of my projects.

Things I hear:

“Wow, you are so talented, I could never do that.”   Actually, I had to learn how to do that, and you can, too!

“You must be so patient!”  Umm, HELL no!  I am the most impatient person ever.  You should have seen me open my mouth and do a silent scream in frustration last night when I was still working on a project at midnight.

“Is there anything you CAN’T do!?”  Yes!  So many things! For starters you probably don’t want to ask me to sing at your next event!

I believe most people out there can do the same projects I do (and more!) with two things …The desire to do it and the belief that you can.  Ok, maybe there is a third thing.  Perseverance.  A failure is just an opportunity to learn how to do it better, don’t quit!

So I’m blogging for all of the people out there who want to tackle a project, but they just don’t know how.  I’m blogging because my obsessive nature causes me to do hours and hours of research on my projects and the details I learn might just make the next person’s life easier.  I’m blogging because I want to help people open their minds to their capabilities and creativity.  I’m blogging for you!
